The Punjab and Haryana High Court has partly allowed a petition filed by Ashish Gupta, modifying a CBI court’s condition that he deposit Rs 4.95 crore in the form of an FDR before travelling abroad.

Gupta had approached the High Court under Section 528 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, challenging the condition imposed while granting him permission to travel to Switzerland, France, the UK and Italy with his daughter. He argued that the deposit condition was excessive, punitive, and based on an unproven allegation about the bank’s claimed loss.
