The Punjab and Haryana High Court has quashed an FIR, challan and all consequential proceedings against Renu Sharma in a case alleging tampering of an Annual Confidential Report, holding that the prosecution could not explain how the alleged incorrect information attracted Section 218 of the IPC.

The case arose from an FIR lodged on the complaint of a Forest Officer, who alleged that his ACR had been forged and manipulated to affect his promotion prospects. During investigation, Renu Sharma was named as an accused and a challan was filed against her under Section 218 IPC.
