P&H: Road Accident Case; 85 Year Old Convict Gets Sentence Reduced to Period Already Undergone.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has reduced the sentence of an 85-year-old man convicted in a 2006 road accident case to the period already undergone, while maintaining his conviction and fine.

The case arose from FIR No. 66 dated 02.02.2006 registered at Police Station Sadar, Patiala, under Sections 304-A, 279 and 427 of the IPC. The petitioner had been convicted for the offence under Section 304-A IPC and sentenced to one year’s rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 2,000.

Before the High Court, the petitioner did not challenge the conviction on merits. His counsel argued only for reduction...
