P&H: Reduces sentence to period already undergone in 26 year old rash and negligent road accident case, upholds conviction

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has reduced the sentence of Ram Kumar, convicted in a 2000 road accident case under Sections 304A, 279, 337 and 338 of the IPC, to the period already undergone by him. The Court, however, upheld his conviction.

The case arose from an accident on 24 August 2000 near Abohar, where a tempo driven by the petitioner was involved in a collision. One person died and others suffered injuries. After investigation, the police concluded that Ram Kumar had been driving the tempo in a rash and negligent manner and registered the FIR.
