P&H: Quashes FIR After Compromise in Grievous Hurt Case, Says Criminal Proceedings Would Be Futile

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has quashed an FIR and all consequential proceedings after finding that the parties had amicably settled the dispute through a genuine compromise.

The petition was filed by Chander Sain and another, who sought quashing of FIR No. 115 dated 09.05.2026 registered at Police Station City Malout, District Sri Muktsar Sahib. The FIR had been registered under Sections 118(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Section 118(2) was later added during investigation.
