Facts of the Case

P&H: Closes contempt plea, says dispute over further promotion must be decided separately

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has disposed of a contempt petition filed by Narinder Pal Singh, who alleged that the State had not complied with an earlier writ order concerning his seniority and service benefits.

The petitioner had earlier challenged a seniority list that placed him below private respondents. He claimed that he had been promoted as Junior Scale Stenographer on ad hoc basis in 1981 and later confirmed, while the private respondents were directly recruited later. The writ court had accepted his case that he was a promotee and that his service from 1981 could not be ignored.
