P&H: Dismisses Protection plea by live in couple where one partner is already married, says they must first approach Legal Services Authority or Human Rights Commission
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has dismissed a protection petition filed by a couple living in a live-in relationship, where one of them was already married, holding that such a plea was not maintainable before the writ court unless the petitioners first approached the District Legal Services Authority or the State Human Rights Commission.
The petitioners had approached the Court under Articles 226 and 227 of the Constitution seeking directions to the police to protect their lives and liberty and to prevent harassment by private respondents. They claimed that they were facing threats after beginning their live-in relationship.
