P&H: Arbitration Award arising from same land-acquisition, arbitration challenges transfer to same court

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed that two challenges to an arbitral award concerning land acquired for the Delhi–Amritsar–Katra National Highway be transferred from Amritsar to Jalandhar. Justice Harkesh Manuja allowed the applications filed by Harjeet Kaur and another landowner.

The landowners had filed objections under Section 34 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, against an award dated December 16, 2024. Their petitions were pending before the Additional District Judge at Amritsar. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had also challenged the same award, and its petition was pending before the Additional District Judge-VII at Jalandhar.
