P&H: Appointment of Lambardar - Declines To Interfere With Collector’s Choice, Says Youth And Higher Education Not Decisive

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has dismissed a writ petition challenging the appointment as Lambardar of village. High Court has upheld concurrent orders of the District Collector, Commissioner and Financial Commissioner.

The vacancy arose after the death of the previous Lambardar. During the selection process, two the petitioner, Gurbinder Singh, and Jagdev Singh were candidates. The Tehsildar and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate recommended Jagdev Singh, and the Collector appointed him. The petitioner’s appeal and revision were dismissed by the Commissioner and the Financial Commissioner.
