The Punjab and Haryana High Court has refused to enhance compensation in a motor accident claim nearly ten years after the award, even though it found that the amount could have worked out to a higher figure under later Supreme Court rulings.

Justice Deepak Gupta was hearing an appeal filed by the owners of a bus involved in a fatal accident that claimed the life of Amit Goyal. The claim petition had been filed by his widow, minor son and parents under Section 166 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The Tribunal had already awarded ₹59,08,078 with interest.
